Formula and logic

VAT amount = net price × VAT rate ÷ 100. Gross price = net price + VAT. When removing VAT from a gross price, net price = gross price ÷ (1 + VAT rate ÷ 100).

Practical examples

  • With a 10% VAT rate, a net price of 100 becomes 110 including VAT.
  • A VAT-included price of 110 at 10% contains 10 VAT and 100 net price.
  • For a 20% VAT rate, 240 gross equals 200 net and 40 VAT.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove VAT from an included price?

Yes. Use the VAT-included mode to calculate the net amount and VAT portion.

Is the VAT rate the same everywhere?

No. VAT and sales tax rules vary by country, region, and product category.

Can I use it for invoices?

It is useful for quick checks, but official invoices should follow local tax rules.

Why does rounding differ?

Tax systems may round per item, per line, or per invoice total.

Add VAT or remove VAT from a price

Choose Add VAT when the amount is before tax. Choose Remove VAT when the displayed price already includes tax. The calculator shows net price, VAT amount, and gross price separately so you can check an invoice, receipt, quote, or online price.

VAT-exclusive example

A net price of 100 at 20% VAT produces 20 VAT and a gross price of 120.

VAT-inclusive example

A gross price of 120 at 20% VAT contains a net price of 100 and 20 VAT. Subtracting 20% directly would be incorrect.

Rates and rounding
